Bilal leads Baker McKenzie's hotels and real estate and hotels practice in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and is a member of Baker & McKenzie’s Global Hotels and Real Estate Group. He has a commercial practice focusing on domestic and international hotel projects and real estate transactions. Bilal regularly advises master developers, sub-developers, investment funds and Islamic banks on large-scale mixed use hotel, commercial, retail and residential developments, acquisitions, lettings and disposals.
In addition to addressing client needs for development work, acquisitions, leasing, disposals, strata title strategy, development strategy and town planning, Bilal has particular experience in advising on land use and development in accordance with Islamic Shari'a and in structuring hotels and tourism projects, and real estate transactions generally, on a Shari'a compliant basis.
Bilal graduated from the University of Tasmania in Arts and Law (B.Arts/LLB, 1997) and holds a masters degree from the Australian National University in Environmental Management and Development. He was admitted as a lawyer in the Australian Capital Territory (Australia) in 1998. He was subsequently admitted as a lawyer in Western Australia and Victoria (Australia) and is on the roll of the High Court of Australia.
